The sacrifice of His Son to be our Redeemer shows clearly the outpouring of His love in mercy. In the Old Testament history of God’s relationship with His chosen people Israel, mercy characterized His dealing and His covenant. That mercy can be understood as the interaction of God’s strength, steadfastness and love. Mercy and covenant are mentioned together in various times, showing God’s steadfast love for His people. Psalm 25:10 shows the right response of God’s people to His mercy. “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.”
