Darkness and Light

Man is reluctant to believe that God will judge him of wrong doing. From the days of Eden, when the serpent contradicted the word of God that man should die for disobedience, there has been much more comfortable thinking concerning what God would do in the future. With mistaken generosity, souls are promised bliss with complete disregard of whether there has been thought for God’s commandments during life. And many people delude themselves that if they do what they think is right, if there should be a future, they will partake in it. The apostle John found it necessary to write “concerning them that would seduce you” and to affirm that the children of God did not follow the ways of sin. “If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him” (1 John 2:26,29).

“And every one that hath this hope set on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifested, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God: neither he that loveth not his brother” (1 John 3:3-10).
