Responsibility in the Last Days

Jesus said that no man knows the day of his return, only the Father. The idea behind this is that we should be prepared to meet Jesus at any time, any hour of the day. We are told that Jesus will come suddenly, unexpectedly, so we have to be continually saying to ourselves, ‘He may come today’. Until he returns, we have our normal duties to do and we must do them in a way that is pleasing to God. We live in a dishonest world, but we must not be tainted by their ways. Our principles must be the highest, our Lord expects us to be examples of the highest quality in our work in this life. We work for the future when Jesus will be here, and we want to live and reign with him. The future for us is glorious and all we are asked to do is to be faithful to him who has called us to his kingdom and glory.

To all members of the household of faith, let us be strong in faith to please God in all our ways, to be ready to meet the Master at the judgment seat. May we be like the faithful virgins with oil in our lamps, looking, waiting and longing for the Master’s return, and may we receive those wonderful words from Jesus on that day, “Enter into the joy of your Lord”. As we read in the New Testament, let us encourage each other and all the more as we see the day approaching (Hebrews 10:25). God does not want us to lose our faith, and He will try to win us back, as He did with the children of Israel, but we have to be willing to respond positively to the experiences He sends us. “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love” (1 Cor 16:13,14). May all of us who worship God in sincerity and truth be ready to meet Jesus when he comes.
