rasscutters, or cane-rats, (somewhat like
big rabbits) occur in the wild in the bush
and savannah lands of West, Central and
South-East Africa. Because of its size and

taste, the animal is heavily hunted for its
meat. This has caused a rapid decline in the
wild grasscutter population in areas populated
by humans. In some West and Central African
countries this has led to co-ordinated
attempts to raise these animals in captivity.
Farmers’ experiences with keeping grasscut-
ters, combined with research into grasscutter
farming, has resulted in techniques that are
proving both successful and profitable.
Agromisa considered it important to systemat-
ically summarize all the available information
on this subject. Their booklet gives a clear
description of the techniques and potential
pitfalls of successful grasscutter rearing for
meat at the small-scale farm level. Grasscut-
ters are one way in which farm families can
diversify their farming activities and improve

have had a child- with the husband only
getting casual work here and there on the
black market. There is a whole raft of
needs here, and there is an urgent need
to come visit this group, disciple them
further, and also baptize yet more who are
preparing for baptism. The town they are
in is near various tourist sites such as the
area where the seven churches of Revela-
tion were located. Ruins from New Testa-
ment times abound. So such a missionary
trip could be combined with a holiday-
although the work to do is quite enough to
keep you busy for as long as you can
spare. Do let us know if you would
consider such a trip. Those baptized were

Asadoolah, Saeid, Mohammad, Arash, Mitra,
Mostafa, Roghayeh, Ashkan, Emad, Reza,
