Sight and Insight

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matt 5:8). The world says: ‘Seeing is believing’. The Word says: Believing is seeing. Sight and Insight: these are the marks contrasting the man of the world and the man of God. Think of it: to be cultured and capable and yet not to know Christ, nor to understand God’s word.

The eye is not the only organ of sight to see the unseen is the difference between the mind of the spirit and the mind of the flesh. When we are hard pressed, we need to look up! Jesus still anoints men’s eyes. Seeing is not looking on the outside of things: seeing is discerning the meaning of life and things. Christ came into the world that in him men might see God. This vision strengthens us in all our trials, comforts us in sorrow, and makes our life rich and full.

Faith is knowledge in a superior knowledge. The gospel is not against reason: it explains reason and reveals to us the purpose of God, His love and His grace. As Jesus said: “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
