Images of God

Can human beings understand or relate to a God who is far above them? How do the images of God used in scripture help bridge the chasm between people and God Almighty?

We humans are earth-bound, flesh and blood, flawed creatures while God is a Spirit, perfect, unlimited by space or time. In 1 Tim 6:15,16, Paul reminds us that there is no way our minds can fully grasp this divine being. God “is the blessed and only ruler, the King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords. He is the only one who never dies. He lives in light so bright no-one can go near it. No one has ever seen God, or can see him.”

Yet in spite of the chasm that separates God and people, the good news of the Bible is that God wants to become one with them.
