Waiting For The Lord

"Wait upon me, says the Lord" (Zephaniah 3:8).

The Almighty God, who created the earth and all therein, still asks us to wait for Him in this lifetime while marching Zionwards. We need not forget that God created us with a purpose and in order to meet that target, we need to walk with Him so that we are not ashamed in the end.

But how? Firstly, take the example of a tourist visiting a wild animal park without precautions or a tour guide. There is a high risk of him being eaten. Secondly, an athlete has to stay in his lane until he reaches the finishing line, or he will be disqualified for failing to adhere to the rules.

Spiritually, there are guidelines set by God which we must keep, to avoid shame for both ourselves and for God. We therefore need to have hope, courage, patience and strength as the following Bible quotations show: That a man hope and quietly wait (Lamentations 3:26); Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage (Psalms 27:14); David patiently waited for the Lord (Psalms 40:1); Because of his strength will I wait upon thee (Psalms 59:9).

Perhaps we have stumbled by listening to our friends in the same way that Job was tempted by his three friends. Pray that God will equip us with the four named virtues, but fear Him, fear Him only! However, in spite of repeatedly falling and rising again, there awaits a reward. In the end, those who diligently wait for Him shall possess the land: be exalted in possessing the land while the wicked are destroyed: shall not be overcome and weary: shall walk and not faint. But remember that even Christ’s disciples were told to wait for the Comforter (Acts 1:4). David also waited all day long to be led to the truth (Psalms 25:5). We should also wait to see the end of God’s salvation.
