Wilderness Journey

When the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea it symbolised their baptism into Moses and they entered into obedience to Moses? leadership. Furthermore they?d survived the armies of Pharaoh that had tried to kill them. This was the time of their starting on their wilderness journey to the promised land. Imagine wandering in the huge desert for forty years without reaching the promised land, the land of milk and honey and a land of their forefathers. In addition, they used the same clothing and shoes without them wearing out. Is this not wonderful? Then think of their food, they fed on manna always. And yet they persevered and continued on their journey under the wise leadership of Moses.

We can fully compare the wilderness journey with our immediate baptism when we follow the wise leadership of our Lord Jesus Christ and the way to the Kingdom. But we should always remember that this journey is not easy and we shall only enter the Kingdom through suffering and perseverance, the Lord himself being the best example of all. No true believer will ever sail through life joyously without affliction. The great comforter on our journey is the word of God which we should always read, and we must do it for our own salvation (2 Timothy 3:15-16), while we wait for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to save us.
